Zepel Fabrics is greatly concerned about the adverse effect of our activities on the environment. We are committed to embracing all environmental standards such as the Clean Air and Trade Waste Standards nationally.
We are working closely with our textile supply chains so that no harmful substances are present in any significant amounts. Our manufacturers are working towards this goal by adopting recognised "environmentally friendly" working methods such as careful selection of dye-stuffs, optimisation of the dye baths, chlorine free bleaching techniques, low formaldehyde finishing methods and by selecting pesticide and heavy metal free materials.
Zepel Fabrics strives to work with fabric suppliers that adhere to the highest possible environmental standards. One such standard is Oeko-Tex 100 certification. The OEKO-TEX standard 100 is an independent testing and certification system for textile raw materials, intermediate and end products at all stages of production. Examples for items eligible for certification: raw and dyed / finished yarns, raw and dyed / finished fabrics and knits, ready made articles (all types of clothing, domestic and household textiles, bed linen, terry cloth items, textile toys and more.
Textiles under this certification:
In their entirety the requirements clearly exceed existing national legislation in Australia.
REACH is the Regulation on Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals. Entered into force on 1st June 2007. It streamlines and improves the former legislative framework on chemicals of the European Union (EU).
The main aims of REACH are to ensure a high level of protection of human health and the environment from the risks that can be posed by chemicals, the promotion of alternative test methods, the free circulation of substances on the internal market and enhancing competitiveness and innovation. REACH applies to all chemical substances; not only those used in industrial processess but also in our day to day lives, usch as cleaning products, paints clothing, textiles, furniture and electrical appliances. Therefore, the regulation has an impact on most companies across the EU.
REACH makes all Industries responsible for assessing and managing the risks posed by chemicals and providing appropriate safety information to their users. In parallel, the European Union can take additional measures on highly dangerous substances, where there is a need for complementing action at EU level.
As a result of this NEW regulated procedural requirment on all European companies, all our textiles imported directly from Europe are from hazardous substances.
Benu Wool – Dot, Flock and Wool
The wool that is used for the BENU WOOL collection, originates from clothing inventory and other wool material.
Due to a newly patented process, it is now possible to produce a long stapled wool yarn, that is suitable for home furniture use.
By recycling wool material we treat our natural resources with respect and reduce waist. Furthermore BENU WOOL fabrics forego the dyeing process and thereby contribute to a healthier environment.
Benu “PET” - abbreviation (Polyethylene Terephthalate) – Check, Cube, Stripe, Plain, Wave
It is a plastic material made from petroleum, used mainly for the production of food and beverage packaging materials, but also for polyester used in manufacturing of sails and sporting clothes.
PET plastic bottles have been known for years as light & practical containers for soda drinks. Before, these bottles were thrown away and ended up as waste. In a pioneering technological process these empty PET bottles are now transformed into yarns. A strict quality check controls the production of yarns. Only the best yarns will be coloured, woven, and finally, in accordance with their designated function, finished. The surprising result is a recycled polyester yarn of the finest quality. Unfortunately the capacity for recycling are not sufficient to take care of all discarded PET bottles and still today, many tons of PET bottles end up as waste in landfills.
This is where BENU PET comes in: Christian Fischbacher wants to do its bit in the reduction of the use of non – renewable fossil fuels, (8% of the world’s oil production is used for plastic products) and in the reduction of no –degradable waste.
The Christian Fischbacher Benu PET fabrics are further treated with a special, ecologically sound NanoTex finishing, which provides a unique hydrophobic surface. This makes the fabrics moisture and stain resistant.
Fabrics: MBDC “Silver Cradle to Cradle”
NanoTex finishing: MBDC “Cradle to Cradle”
The MBCD cradle-to-cradle concept anticipates future eco-political regulations because its requirements for certification exceed current official environmental norms.

The inherent nature of polyester FR gives these ranges the following washing and eco-friendly characteristics:
Compared to cotton textiles, these characteristics significantly reduce cleaning/laundry costs and water usage.
The majority of Zepel’s range including the new FR-One collection is composed of 100% Polyester FR.
Zepel Fabrics strives to only use suppliers whose yarns are not produced in third world countries and that exercise socially responsible and ethical practices.
All UV Pro fabrics are Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 certified, the safety standard and quality label in the international textile and clothing industry. Technical assessment and annual re-evaluation by independent research institutes are focused on ecology and healthiness of the entire production cycle, from raw materials to the finished fabric.
All UV Pro fabrics meet or exceed the strict REACH regulations — European standards and rules for discouraging use of any dangerous processes, chemicals or substances. The production of 100% solution dyed acrylic fibres, yarns and fabrics uses substantially less water compared to 100% cotton and other fabrics containing natural fibres. Easy-care, long lasting vibrant colours, durability and robustness of UV Pro fabrics guarantee lasting customer satisfaction and a long life for the products themselves. UV Pro fabrics have a longer life, which results in less waste and replacement.
