Papunya Panel 7678
by Casamance

1732

Papunya is a town in the middle of a desert. It was the birthplace of a new artistic movement in the Seventies based on Aboriginal art. Its patterns consist of abstract designs and landscapes as seen from the sky. The Casamance designers were inspired by its colours and shapes for this large-scale project. Created using acrylic inks to form shadows, layering and textures on a textile base, it suggests the paintings found on rock-faces in Australia.
