Amora Hotel

Initially operated as a quarantine hotel, Amora engaged Cottee Parker to completely refurbish the Brisbane property. Elevating its status from four to five star and expanding its appeal beyond business travellers in the post-pandemic era.

With an extensive portfolio of luxury hotel and residential projects, Cottee Parker designed an urban oasis in the heart of the city. Move-in assisted Cottee Parker in bringing their concept to life; sourcing furniture, soft furnishings, and artworks to complement the architecture.

Seeking to attract leisure guests and families, creating a relaxed homely environment was central to the design. In addition to refurbishing the common areas, all 296 guestrooms over 13 levels were renovated. “In an extension to the interior refurbishment, the furniture and styling reflects organic form and texture, subtle details, relaxed seating and layering combine to create soft, harmonious spaces that feel breezy and easy-going,” says  Melissa Molnar of Move-In.

Brisbane’s sub-tropical environment echoes throughout the hotel and atop a warm, textured palette is a cohesive selection of walnut timber, rattan, tan upholsteries, graphic wallcoverings, and artworks. “Wallpapers depicting plants are used extensively in the lobby and rooms. Known as biophilia, science proves that being surrounded by plants and images of plants reduces stress and promotes feelings of relaxation, which was the essence of the guest experience we wanted to create.”

“The concept of an ‘urban oasis’ imitates nature, softening the built form, and localising the experience.”

A luxury residential feel is evident in the Amora guestrooms which feature furniture pieces boasting soft curves and clean contemporary lines in a light colour palette. “Our desire to create a light palette in a high traffic environment was challenging when it came to upholstery choices … Fabric selections had to have enough tonal variety to reduce visibility of incidental marking, whilst also ensuring easy cleanability.”

“All textiles selected were FibreGuard, chosen for their easy-clean properties and stain resistance. It’s quite a busy hotel, hosting guests overnight in addition to a large function venue with an evening bar area. The textiles selected were regarded for high-traffic areas which is essential for maintenance and for the hotel to remain looking fresh.”

Warm tones synonymous with the casual Brisbane aesthetic are anchored by graphic wallcoverings representing the experience of the ‘river city.’ Casamance’s Cap Frehel Wallpanel is the restaurant’s hero piece, highlighting the hotel’s relationship to the surrounding environment without leaning to heavily into the tropical theme.

Sophisticated neutrals blend with autumnal tones and tranquil travertine, the scheme is punctuated by metallic brass finishes and an abundance of indoor plants, blurring the boundaries between indoor and out to create a truly escapist inner-city experience.
