Queensland Villa: ARCOS by Graya

This Mediterranean inspired villa combines Pyrenees architecture with curved lines and modern functionality. On first impression this property appears to be nestled in the rural setting with its grandeur, solid materiality, and iconic arches. However, this home is just a few kilometres away from Brisbane's city centre.

The expansive glass panels coupled with the soft drape of the sheer, diffuse the strong sunlight while inviting you to walk out onto the terrace.

ARCOS, which translates to arches in Spanish, was designed and built by Graya and Joe Adsett Architecture. Graya and Adsett revitalised the original Queenslander by lifting the building on top of a state-of-the-art addition to the home, creating a spacious, light filled interior perfectly suited to large gatherings and entertaining. The home is also enhanced by a stunning pool, lush backyard, and grand curved staircase. Featured prominently in this elegant maze of arched motifs and textured neutrals are window furnishings in Zepel’s Allusion, created and expertly installed by DIY Blinds.

The elegant Allusion has a linen, cotton composition with the addition of polyester for durability. This sheer design also filters sunlight while allowing the breeze to enter, adding a serene feel, and perfectly complementing the earthy colour palette in the home. DIY Blinds installed Allusion at ARCOS along with blinds from their Balmoral range which were combined with the Somfy motorised blinds system. The Somfy Connexoon Window RTS Hub uses superior technology to respond to weather conditions, your routine, and can be paired with home automation devices. The blockout blind beautifully complements the sheer, adding superior thermal insulation and a luxury finish, especially when viewing the drapery in motion. The ease of movement is particularly impressive when sitting in the street facing room where Allusion is hung floor-to-ceiling against expansive sliding windows.

DIY Blinds provided a quick and easy, end-to-end process with the window treatments that were customised to the interior and customers’ unique requirements. The owners of ARCOS, Rob and Meghan, were able to achieve their vision of creating a smooth transition and connection between the interior and lush subtropical backyard. The expansive glass panels coupled with the soft drape of the sheer, diffuse the strong sunlight while inviting you to walk out onto the terrace to enjoy the greenery and city views.
